Gina is a Blue Fronted Macaw. She came to the rescue from another rescue located in Georgia. The rescue got her from a man that obtained her and multiple other birds with the intent to sanction them. Unfortunately he wasn’t equipped with the knowledge or facility to keep Gina nor the other birds safe and healthy. He willing relinquished Gina and multiple other birds over to the rescue. We took Gina into our sanctuary fully prepared to be Ginas legs and wings for the rest of her long, happy life. Gina’s story is heartbreaking but she is now thriving and happy. So let’s jump right in to how Gina got here. Gina’s legs were broken from a previous owner and without medical attention, they grew back incorrectly. She has a lot of issues because of it. Gina is unable to perch or fly like normal birds. Though she has found a way to get round in her own special way, its still quite difficult for her. Gina needs constant care and assistance though out the day. Because of the way her legs have grown back, amputation is not an option. Gina has continuous pressure and weight on her legs so we have found ways to relieve that pressure in different ways for her.
